Da-Ching District

Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU) Hospital was founded on August 17, 1966. Its forerunner was Chung Shan Medical Junior College Hospital, which was reorganized in 1977 as Private Chung Shan Medical College Hospital. Private Chung Shan Medical College Hospital was renamed Chung Shan Medical University Hospital in 2001.

CSMU Hospital is committed to the pursuit of three goals: offering clinical instruction to medical students,providing health care and promoting clinical medical research and development.
This commitment and the efforts of our faculty and administrators succeeded on July 1, 2000, when approval was obtained to designate our facility to as a medical center, a milestone in our recent growth.

Ever since the Da-Ching branch was opened on November 12, 1998, the hospital system has provided a broad range of medical care. There are three hospital districts: Da-Ching, Wen-Hsin and Chung-Kang. Also we have a university Rehabilitation Hospital. Each branch has it own specialties. Da-Ching Hospital specializes in pulmonary disease and prevention, heart disease and prevention, cancer disease and prevention, neurovascular disease and prevention, AIDS disease and prevention, burns & scalds therapy, gamma knife surgery, positron emission tomography, Picture Archiving and Commumication System (PACS) and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, pediatric diseases, gynecologic & obstetric diseases, infertility, genetic consultation, plastic surgery and complete physical examination and followed by regular check-ups. Wen-Hsin Hospital specializes in stomatology and related disciplines. Chung Kang Hospital specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation,
hospice, respiratory care and drug inspection. The university Rehabilitation Hospital specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation and psychiatry.

CSMU has established an affiliated University Hospital that provides medical students and interns with extensive clinical training in a high tech therapeutic and diagnostic setting.

However, we have not lost sight of the fact that quality of medical care and training hinges upon the excellence of our medical faculty and nursing staff. Not only have we obtained the most advanced technical equipment, but we have also dedicated ourselves to recruiting the best medical faculty and nursing staff.

We are dedicated to establishing CSMU as a world-class institution provides trans-departmental clinical research and development centers along with the finest in medical technology.
Diagnostic equipment includes a digital imaging information system (including X-ray, supersonic waves, CT scan, and positron emission tomography) that provides physicians with rapid access to examinations and facilitates instruction with auxiliary teaching materials. Furthermore, we have a Positron Emission Tomography Center, the largest in Southeast Asia and the only one in central and southern Taiwan. Our Neurologic Surgery
Department faculty performs the only gamma knife surgery in central and southern Taiwan.

The joint efforts of medical, nursing and administrative personnel succeeded when CSMU Hospital passed ISO9002 certification and was designated a medical center by the Department of Health. Furthermore, this hospital has earned consecutive 2000 to 2003 National Bio-Tech-Quality of Medical Treatment Awards. A dental college was established, named as “Chung Shan Dental Junior College”.

May 1962

Four-year Medicine School was established.

Jun. 1963

The first term of architecture in affiliated hospital was started building.

Aug.1966

Affiliated hospital was formally opened, named as “Dr. Sun Yi Sian Memorial Hospital ”.

Jun. 1969

The first X-ray machine in Taiwan was bought by affiliated hospital.

May 1973

Affiliated hospital undertook the labor insurance affair.

Mar. 1974

Intensive Care Room was established.

1976

The first case or percutaneous transphepatic cholangiogram & percutaneous transphepatic cholangeal drainage was executed by Dr. Ho Lu-Chung.

Apr. 1977

The school was promoted to college-level status.

Aug. 1977

It was renamed as “Chun Shan Medical & Dental College Hospital”.

Sep. 1978

Dr. Wu Tang-Tiau, Lin Zong-I took part in the first Conjoin twins division in Taiwan.

May. 1979

Affiliated hospital undertook the civil servant insurance affair.

Jun. 1980

The enlargement of Dental building was started.

Mar. 1981

The first CT Scanner in middle Taiwan was started to use in affiliated hospital.

Aug. 1982

Cytogenetics laboratory was established by Dr. Li Syuan You .

Mar. 1983

Affiliated hospital was promoted to second-degree teaching hospital.

The first cornea implantation was operated in affiliated hospital.

The successful use of ECMO and Drotrecogin alfa (vh APC) in patients with septic shock and life threatening cardiopulmonary failure, the first case report of Asia.  

Mar.2004

Regaining the consciousness on vegetative patients with spinal cord stimulation and hyperbaric oxygen is initiated on Mar, 2004. This is the first group to treat vegetative patient in our nation.

Nov.2004

Deep brain stimulation ( subthalamic Nucleus ) was installed with stereotactic method to treat the advanced Parkinson’s disease on Nov, 2004.
